How many books will there be in the Spellcrackers.com series?
There are currently 6 books contracted with my UK publishers: Gollancz. Check out the books UK page for full details.
1 - The Sweet Scent of Blood
2 - The Cold Kiss of Death
3 - The Bitter Seed of Magic
4 - The Shifting Price of Prey
5 - The Hidden Rune of Iron
6 - The Sharp Bite of Ritual
Do the books have to be read in order?
Each book has its own murder mystery plot which is resolved within that book, so the books can be read out of order. But the books are a series featuring the same characters, so if you read them in order you can follow how the characters and their relationships grow and change. The books also have some minor overarching plot points that build and develop over the series.
When is the next Spellcrackers book coming out?
Please check the appropriate book page for your country/language.
Are your books available outside the United Kingdom?
All the books are available to puchase from good online retailers. The UK editions of the books are available from The Book Depository with free worldwide delivery.
Are there Kindle, ebook, or audio versions of your books?
Yes there are Kindle and ebook versions as appropriate. These are available on the same publishing schedule as the print books, which means that kindle/ebooks for the US editions will only be available as the books are published in the US.
Please check the appropriate book page for your country/language.
Russian - not yet as far as I am aware
Currently there are no audio versions of my books.
Are the US Editions the same text as the UK Editions?
Yes they are, right down to the British spelling and punctuation.
Are the Spellcrackers books paranormal romances or urban fantasy?
The Spellcrackers books are urban fantasy. There are elements of romance in each book, but romance is not the main focus of the books’ plots.
When can I read an excerpt of the next book?
Excerpts for the next book in the series will be available to read on the website as soon as my publisher gives permission. This is normally about a month/six weeks before the book is due to be published in the UK. You can find them from the main books page under the appropriate title.
Can I have a copy of your books to review?
Please use the review request form to request a review copy. Review copies are usually only available in the 3 – 4 months leading up to a book’s release. Please be advised that publishers only print a limited amount of review copies, so sending the request is not a guarantee that a review copy will be sent to you.
Can you do an interview or guest blog?
I am always happy to do any interviews, so please use the contact form and ask me. But please be aware that I may not be able to answer your questions immediately.
Are you making an appearance near me?
Please check the calendar page for details.
How did you get started writing?
I started writing back in 2003. At the time I didn’t have a clue how to write, so I joined a local ‘Writing for Beginners’ class. It was the best thing I ever did. Not only did I learn all the basics, but I started getting immediate feedback on my work – we had homework each week to write 250 words – and had to read it out loud for everyone else to comment on (which was about as nerve-wracking as you can get). I also joined the Online Writing Workshop, and read lots of books on ‘How to Write’. More details of things I found helpful are on the ‘For Writers’ page.
Where do you get your ideas from? Are your characters or books based on real life?
Everywhere, anywhere. I love documentaries, and myths, and history and finding out how things work. My mind always seems to find an idea in almost anything I watch, or see, or hear, and I'm constantly 'trying ideas on for size' to see if they'll fit into my current plot, or another one. And once I’ve even dreamed a whole book, although I haven’t written more than notes for that one yet.
I don't base my characters or books on real life, apart from one time when my best writing buddy asked to be a character in my first book. You can read about it here.
I want to be a writer. Can I send you samples of my writing or tell you about my ideas?
Unfortunately, I am sorry but I can’t look at any samples or ideas, so please don’t send me any as they will be deleted unread.
I want to be a writer. Can you give me writing advice or tell me how to get published?
Unfortunately, I am sorry but I can’t give out individual advice, but please have a look at my page 'For Writers'.
I have a question that is not answered here?
Please use the contact form to send it to me, and I will try and answer it as soon as I can. Alternatively, leave your question on this post on my blog, or this on on my Live Journal.
Many thanks for your interest.
